Match Report

What a great day for Souths with the Fildes and Shapland families putting forward 3 players each in the second to last match of the season.  With one of the Ashby experienced players joining Souths in Midfield the game was set to be a good contest .  Souths began the game with a shaky start while the new players found their feet. However with Fraser and Jake's strong presence in midfield Souths did well to keep the young Ashby team out for quite a while.  Graham Morgan and Tony were extremely reliable at the back ensuring that Ashby had to work very hard for attacking opportunities.  When Ashby did manage a few runs into the D they were met by an in form James in goal who made scoring very difficult.  Ashby only managing to get two past James in the first half with one of the goals being a well worked deflection that even the GB goalie would have had trouble getting to.  The second half started off more calmly than the first as Souths were more confident after the good display in the first half.  Archie and Jake connected well and had some excellent runs at Ashby down the right wing which could easily have turned into goals. Elliot on his debut was truly an asset keeping the Ashby players busy and making it very difficult for them to execute their attack plans.  Souths only conceded 1 goal in the second half thanks largely to brilliant efforts from James in goal.  The final result was 3 - 0 to Ashby but the Souths team can hold their heads high as  we put up a good fight.  All the young players, William, Taylor, Elliot Jake, and Archie had many good touches which should give them and the team much encouragement as we look forward to our final game next week against Belper 7.
