Last minute changes to the team led to a request to Fin Collins to double-up which he did - thanks Fin
This wasn’t the only team management issue - Graham Morgan arrived kitted up but was obviously still ill with a hacking chesty cough and Fraser was due to depart at half time.
South started well developing multiple chances in their 23 but without success.
Dan’s penetrating balls into the D weren’t rewarded by a finish.
Fraser also had several opportunities to develop scoring opportunities but was thwarted by Melton’s interceptions - their number 22 clearly appeared out of place in this league.
We were grateful to Tommy H for saving several opportunities - but not their flick awarded for Fin’s Forestesque footwork on our goal line.
Craig B was buzzing around in central defence and taking the ball forward to Dan or Adam on the wings but we conceded a second on the stroke of half time.
Graham M had to make his way onto the pitch given Fraser’s departure - thanks Graham - I hope the exertion cleared your tubes
Oscar had plenty to do and performed well against the useful opposition.
South just couldn’t keep the ball long enough to ease Melton’s pressure and they scored another. Norman broke up their play in his typical way on multiple occasions which did give some respite.
South didn’t think we could make any headway but repeated pushes forward by Adam H and Dan led to more balls penetrating their D where Paul tried to finish but was up against a steady defence.
With five minutes to go Dan squeezed an exquisite cross along their goal line for Ken to catch it chest high and put in high into the net.
We are doing things right more than when we went down by “more than 10” to them earlier in the season.
Thanks to Craig B, Tommy H and Fin C for helping with numbers today
Also thanks to Jim and Simon for umpiring (and getting the balance right given the verbals received - thankfully less, but still too much from South players).
