The lead-up to the game was a flurry of communications between South captains with the outcome that 13 players turned-out for the fours against second in the league Belper 6s.
A great mix of young and not so young players populated the team with Mike S supporting from the threes.
It also resulted in four players - Dylan, Mike, Greg and Fraser putting in a great effort for the Club by doubling up for the 4s and 3s (and helping the 3s to an essential win)
Thanks guys
The game was really finely balanced for a big part of the first half but Belper slotted in a goal to put them one up at half time.
Ken highlighted the effort put in, particularly by the young contingent of Harry S, Archie, Taylor, Jake and Dylan. It’s great to see the youngsters playing so well.
I haven’t included Fraser in that list because both I, and the team, look on him now as one of the “grown ups” - at all of 16 years of age! He played really well and stymied loads of efforts on our goal.
South had a few opportunities to score with Ken and Paul coming close several times.
South’s defence was pretty solid with Tony, Greg, Graham, Dylan and Archie intercepting and resisting attacks.
Mike helped feed the ball into good areas for the nimble feet of Harry S, Jake and Archie in midfield (yes, positional changes were made throughput the game).
Despite many interventions by Adam H and others in the midfield, Belper made it 2:0 but the team was pleased to keep the scoreline at two given the pressure in the dying stages of the game.
The final score of 2:0 against was pretty good considering they are second in the league.
Well done team
