| Match Report |
South embarked on their trip to play Beeston quietly confident and excited for the game. The match started off as well as it could, with an excellent run from Max to what seemed to be a lost cause pass squared across the D for Dylan Rickets to settle one in the back of the net for 1-0 to South. Tom B added to the score shortly, resulting in South being 2-0 up at half time. After some great motivation from Craig and Tom B, South came back out for the second half with confidence and determination to keep their lead. However, despite great defensive efforts from Tom C and Craig, Beeston were able to get a goal back and South looked as if they might fall victim to a Beeston comeback. Persistent work from Andy and Fletch kept the midfield strong, with Zak and Will constantly working the ball down the wing to create as many opportunities as possible. Unfortunately, Stan and Mikey were both unsuccessful in converting opportunities and it looked unlikely South would score again. This was proven wrong however by a wonderful solo goal from Tom B, who went past too many defenders to count before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. South now had a reborn confidence as the game's momentum began to swing back in their favour. An unfortunate situation at the back led to Beeston getting a goal back, however South were still in the lead 3-2 and believed they could hang on to the result. In the last minute, a planted foot on the line blocked a goal and a penalty flick was questionably awarded. This was promptly converted by Beeston and they then proceeded to celebrate like they had just won the world cup.
