| Match Report | It was a bit fresh out when South Notts 3's turned up at Beckett School for a crucial relegation 6 pointer at bottom of the league West Bridgford, knowing anything less than a win would make survival incredibly tough. Fortunately South got off to an outstanding start, with a long ball from Brian finding Mike who shrugged off his marker and reverse swept into the far corner after barely 1 minute. South continued to build on this, driving through the centre of midfield at will and getting into the D regularly but couldn't quite find the final ball. South were then awarded a slightly generous flick after a ball was adjudged to have been going in off a ricochet and hit a WB foot- it probably wasn't to be fair. However, Mike fired it onto the post so hard it went off the pitch past the 25 yard line and the score remained 1-0, but at least Match Report writer was settled nice and early. After a couple of shorts going close including one with a Craig Lawson shot blocked on the line that was actually a flick this time but not given South finally made them count as Tom Boden was able to turn one in at the near post coming in from injecting, his first goal for the club. WB did threaten on occasion but mainly via some miscommunications at the back and Andy Brinklow in goal needed to make some strong stops, including a low diving special and Lawson popped up with a goalline clearance to protect the 2 goal lead into the half. WB changed their formation at half time to clog things up and prevent South from dominating the middle of the park like they had up to that point, and it did work, however it further stymied their own attack and South just directed more attacks down the wings. South forced a couple of saves from the WB keeper despite struggling to get shots off at times while the South backline stood strong to keep Andy relatively quiet but the expected WB onslaught never came and the score remained 2-0. Highlight of the second half was the same WB player, weighing about 7 stone wet through, bouncing off both Tom and Fraser within about 5 minute of each other, both blown up as fouls against South despite being completely clean 50-50's, purely on the basis of how far away he landed each time. All in all it was an excellent performance from every player as South rise 2 places to 9th, although it remains very tight amongst the bottom 5. |
