| Match Report | Fresh off a great team win last week at Boots, South were full of confidence despite being up against 3rd in the league West Bridgford, knowing that if they played like last week they'd have a good shot at a result. South started the game strongly, dominating the game by winning the ball high up the pitch repeatedly and their high press forcing plenty of panicked WB clearances straight off the sidelines. South we able to turn this possession into several close chances with debutant Tom Boden and Mike Shapland both firing just wide. Despite South having defended well whenever Bridgford did counter attack WB did manage to score a scrappy goal to go ahead, then doubled their lead shortly after off a rebound from a short. A month ago South's heads may have dropped after siddenly going 2 down despite playing well but in a sign the team is maturing, they bounced straight back. A strong run into the D from Tom saw him slip a pass through to an overlapping Zak Ryan on the backline who played the ball across goal for Max Brinklow to tap home at the back post just before the half and South had cut the score to 2-1. Knowing they were well in this and that the scoreline hadn't reflected the performance South started the half as they had the first. However, WB had dropped deeper and deeper to defend their lead and chances were hard to come by but eventually the pressure told and a deep diagonal ball from the right found Mike in the D and his shot at goal took a high deflection off the keeper's diving stick which saw it loop past the covering defender on the line. Despite more pressure from both teams looking for the winner, no further goals came and while 2-2 was a great result, especially from 2-0 down, South felt that they played well enough to have got all 3 points. |
